Greenwich Police confirmed they had received a call regarding the bear on the side of the roadway near Exit 31 and referred the matter to state police.
The bear was apparently struck Friday evening, with calls to authorities beginning on Saturday.
Last week, a bear was hit and killed by a vehicle on I-84 in Newtown. There were minor injuries during that incident.
According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, it's not uncommon for black bears to be along the state's roadways as their numbers continue to increase.
In addition, July is also breeding time for the black bear, with many traveling great miles to find a mate.
